May Favourites

May has rolled by so insanely quickly and as June is practically over it seemed like a good time to finally share my monthly favourites (one day I'll get good at this I swear.) As always we've got a bit of everything, I've tried my best to tone down the geekiness this month but I'm sure some will slip through the cracks.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was hands down my most anticipated film for 2017 and my expectations were set so high for it. Needless to say it did not let me down, I absolutely adored it. I thought it was absolutely hilarious, I really enjoyed the plot and found it to be so aesthetically pleasing. I loved the dynamics between the characters and all the individual character development. Baby Groot was of course a little comedic angel. I found the film thoroughly enjoyable and can't wait for it to come out on DVD. It was incredibly easy to watch, was so feel good but also hit you with the emotions as well. 10/10 would 100% recommend.

As I am writing this it is the day after I saw Paramore perform live in London, I am still absolutely buzzing. I have a separate post planned for that so I won't talk about it too much now, but it was so incredible and they performed so many songs from their latest album After Laughter which is my favourite album at the moment. I found this album steps away from the Paramore sound that we have previously heard and I absolutely love it. It's so fun, the beats are amazing and it's perfect to sing along to, what more could you want? I pretty much love the whole thing, but my favourite tracks are Rose Coloured Boy, Pool, Caught in the Middle, Told You So & Hard Times.

I've mentioned this product countless times on this blog but it's one of those beauty products that I obsess over, then forget about then obsess about all over again. It's one of my skincare holy grail's and it is the La Roche Posay - Effaclar Duo. This product is so perfect for this time of year when it's really hot and you want something light on your face. It does such a good job at evening out my skin tone and really helps to reduce any redness. I find it to be really soothing for my skin and I always find that you can actually feel like it's doing something. It is by no means the cheapest product, so it's probably a good thing I go through phases with it because I definitely couldn't afford to use it constantly, but it is good for when skin is feeling particularly problematic.

Next up is the most random and the geekiest of the bunch, told you one would slip through somehow. It is the anime show Yuri!!! On Ice. I used to be obsessed with anime when I was a teenager and I've recently been trying to rekindle that love and so far Yuri!!! On Ice has captured my attention the most. If you've not seen it, it's about a group of competitive figure skaters, focusing mostly on Yuri Katsuki who is incredibly talented but lacks confidence after having a particularly bad season, Victor Nikiforov who is a world champion and up and coming child star Yuri Plisetsky. It shows their journey to the Figure Skating Grand Prix and all sorts of madness that ensues. I love this programme for many reasons. First of all, it is so pretty to look at, the colour palette is phenomenal and all the designs and art work are amazing. Hats off to whoever can make these animated males so attractive. Secondly, it involves figure skating which I am absolutely obsessed with and hopefully at some point will be giving a try myself. Thirdly, it breaks typical animal rules. It has a much more open representation of same sex relationships, it breaks gender stereotypes and also tackles issues regarding anxiety and self confidence. It is an insanely hyped up anime and it is completely justified, if you are into anime I would thoroughly recommend giving this a watch.

I've recently found a game changer when it comes to my foundation, I've never been able to find one that is just right, but my friends, this month that has all changed. It is Rimmel's Lasting Finish, I've tried countless Rimmel foundations and really don't understand how I've not come across this one before. I really like this foundation purely for the coverage, it's insane. A little really goes a long way and gives such a flawless finish, I by no means have flawless skin, but this foundation gives me the closest thing I'm going to get. I use 200 Soft Beige, which is a tiny bit dark for me, clearly I thought I was more tanned than I was when I bought it. It's a perfect foundation for this time of year when it's too hot to wear a full face of make up, but still want some coverage, because it's not to heavy on your face. It also has SPF 20 so will keep your face sunburn free. Win.

As you may know, I dyed my hair from brunette to blonde recently, I mean I've not stopped going on about it so well done if you missed that update. Obviously when hair is bleached it can become pretty frazzled so I've been making an active effort to look after my hair so it doesn't all fall out. I've started trying to use more heat protection on my hair for when I'm drying or straightening it. I've tried many heat protection products over the years and haven't found one that's stuck. I recently went back to using Tresemme Care & Protect Heat Defence, and I am very happy with the things it has done for my hair. It is meant to protect your hair up to 230 degrees, which is good for a GHD addict like me. I like this heat protector because I've actually noticed my hair looking in better condition, it feels slightly stronger and looks a bit shinier. The thing I like most about this product is that it doesn't leave my hair looking greasy like some have done in the past. If you're looking for a heat protector for your hair then I would thoroughly recommend giving this one a go. Take care of your hair kids.

My last favourite of the month is a fashion item that I am absolutely obsessed with; Culottes. I used to be so scared of culottes because I'm a little short arse and I thought I would look so stupid if I wore them, I then eventually gave into temptation, and I'm hooked. First of all, they are so ridiculously comfortable which is a selling point in itself. They are also surprisingly flattering, more so than I thought they would be at least. They are so lightweight and airy which I am all about for this hot weather that we are currently having. I own so many different pairs in different colours and will probably continue to buy more. I need help.

What were you loving during the month of May?
Based on these items, do you have any recommendations for me?
